CELEBRATING RUDI GERNREICH I Mona Thalheimer Designs
Los Angeles-based fashion designer Mona Thalheimer wanted to commemorate what would have been avant-garde designer and LGBTQ+ rights pioneer, Rudi Gernreich's 100th birthday. The project was personal to Mona as Rudi had been a dear friend and mentor to her since she was a child. His unconditional support paved the way for her to become a successful designer in her own right.
iDivaDesign was tasked with designing a scarf to mark the milestone, along with related collateral material to help raise funds for the ACLU's Southern California chapter. The client asked for bright, bold, and joyful, and wanted Gernreich's quotes incorporated into the final product; however, the design brief was clear that while the look was to celebrate the iconic designer, it could not incorporate any elements of his work. To achieve the various goals, a playful pop art approach was taken.
